Ridgefield Resident Isabella Carrozza is Women Center's 2020 Upstander Leadership Award Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to the Women's Center's 2020 Upstander Leadership Award Scholarship Recipients!

The Women's Center is pleased to announce its second annual Upstander Leadership Award winners. This college scholarship opportunity is generously funded by members of our Board of Directors. The award winners for 2020 are Isabella Carrozza from Ridgefield High School and Isabella Warren from Newtown High School.

Both Isabella Carrozza and Isabella Warren were presented with a $500 check to help them with post high school education expenses. This award is given to seniors who have shown exemplary leadership among their peers and a commitment to ending bullying, sexual harassment, and sexual violence, as well as promoting healthy relationships and fostering equality and empowerment for all.

All area seniors were invited to write a 500-word essay or submit a video of up to three minutes in duration, explaining how their behavior showed a commitment to the Women's Center's values and mission. As noted by one of our winners, "I believe in the power of the individual in creating change in a community. I use my voice to support all people who need empowerment, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. ... I believe that supporting young women can empower them to talk about {these} issues more openly."

We applaud both of these young women and wish them the very best in their future. We are certain that they will bring their commitment to empowering all to the next chapters in their lives.
