Ridgefield Welcomes a New Freshman RABC Scholar
This 2020 school year started off with many new challenges for Ridgefield Public School high school students. With remote and in-class learning schedules to contend with, the year did not start with just the usual concerns of first day-of-school outfits and teacher preferences.
One freshman RHS student, however, is not only up for the challenge this new year brings but is ready to make her four years at RHS count. Eva is A Better Chance Scholar who has been selected from over hundreds of applicants to attend Ridgefield Public Schools and live at the RABC home with the other six Scholars for the next four years.
Eva’s previous school was in Bridgeport where she excelled as a student. Asked why she chose RABC, she said "the girls were super-welcoming and accepting of me even before I was accepted into the program and I also knew I would get a great education at RHS." The smaller class sizes and academic support were a draw as well. Her passion is theater and singing as well as playing the guitar, a skill she's been teaching herself since she was three years-old. Her goals for her academic year are to be “extremely focused and to push myself harder in class.” Eva is excited about taking Computer Science and Robotics and can't wait to see what kind of clubs are available at the school.
Ridgefield’s A Better Chance is one of 128 community school programs across the country that have been working toward creating more equitable learning opportunities for academically-talented boys and girls of color.
