Last week, Danbury City Council gave a big THUMBS UP to the renaming of the City's sewer plant the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant!
And... a deal's a deal. In early September, Oliver promised to donate $55,000 to Connecticut Food Bank, DonorsChoose Danbury Teachers, and the ALS Association Connecticut Chapter IF he gets his namesake sewer plant.
BAM. He's coming! But, when? Mayor Mark says he's "sworn to secrecy" and there will be absolutely no spectators or guests permitted to attend.
Here's how the @#$% went down:
After Oliver mocked the City of Danbury on his HBO show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver saying, "If you're going to forget a town in Connecticut, why not forget Danbury?[expletive]. From its charming Railway Museum to its historic hearthstone castle...Danbury, Connecticut can eat my [expletive]."
He went on to say, "I know exactly three things about Danbury: USA Today ranked it the second-best city to live in (2015), It was once the center of the American hat industry, and, if you're from there, you have a standing invite to get a thrashing from John Oliver (children included)."
