Ridgefield Averages 9 New COVID Cases Daily and Number Continues to Climb

Ridgefield COVID Cases Continue to Climb

Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi reports that our daily new case rates increased from 32.6 to 35.4 per 100,000 residents.

“What that means is that we are averaging nine cases a day and we continue to climb,” he said. “On November 12, we were at 3.5 cases a day and as of today we have more than doubled that.” Mr. Marconi subsequently reported eleven new cases today.

*Unlike the State of CT which averages data on a two-week basis, the Ridgefield analysis reflects a one-week average. The daily new case rates are expressed per 100,000 residents. Ridgefield also includes congregate settings such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities and the State does not. Ridgefield does a deeper dive so the Town can anticipate where we are headed and respond accordingly. Ridgefield is in the Red Alert Level and is acting according to the State’s response framework. Our positivity rate is at almost 6% (number of positive cases divided by the number of tests) and climbing.

Here is what our community can do to bring those numbers back down:

• Avoid activities with anyone who doesn’t live in your household, especially during this holiday season. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending people avoid traveling to see friends and family during the Thanksgiving holiday. Please remember that many people do not show symptoms and do not know they are contagious.

• Effective Monday 11/23 all club and other team sports will be paused until January 19.

• During this important retail season, support local businesses. Watch for flexible senior citizen shopping hours. Our merchants are depending on the Ridgefield Community to help them keep their businesses open.

• Utilize technology such as Facetime and Zoom to visit family, especially those in nursing homes and assisted care facilities rather than in person visits.

• We understand the frustration everyone is feeling with the lack of testing options. We are working hard to get a testing site in Ridgefield but in the meantime, don’t let long lines deter you.

To find a test site near you go to https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus and type in your zip code.
