Ridgefield Public Schools Report COVID Cases at ERMS and BMES

RPS COVID-19 Health and Safety Compliance Liaison Aaron Crook provided a COVID update regarding cases in our schools.

ERMS cases

Crook said that today, Wednesday, December 2, the District learned that a member of the East Ridge Middle School (ERMS) community tested positive for COVID-19, and another individual from (ERMS) is presumed positive. These cases are connected outside of RPS. Crook said that these individuals were not in the ERMS school building during the time when they were infectious to others.

"I have conferred with Town of Ridgefield Health Department Director, Ed Briggs, and RPS Medical Advisor, Dr. James Ahern, about these cases and no contact tracing is needed," he said.

Separately, the District also learned of another, unrelated positive case at ERMS. This individual was placed into quarantine yesterday due to exposure at school on November 23rd and 24th.

Crook said that this individual was in the ERMS building and potentially infectious to others on Monday, November 30th, and Tuesday, December 1st.

"I have conferred with Ed Briggs and Dr. Ahern about this case and contact tracing is underway. Some students and staff will be dismissed early from school today. The ERMS community will hear from principal Tricia Raneri once contact tracing has been completed," said Crook.

Case at Barlow Mountain Elementary School

Crook said that the District also learned today that a member of the Barlow Mountain Elementary School community has tested positive. This individual was in the BMES building while they were potentially infectious to others on Monday, November 30, and Tuesday, December 1.

"I have conferred with Ed Briggs and Dr. Ahern about this case and contact tracing is underway. Some students will be dismissed early from school today. The BMES community will hear from principal Rebecca Laus once contact tracing has been completed," said Crook.
