Ridgefield Thrift Shop: Volunteer, Donate, and BID!

Ridgefield Thrift Shop - Donors and Donations and Online Auctions

Visitors to the Thrift Shop like to peek in the windows at the back of the store. They watch the volunteers take on the monumental job of sorting, ticketing and racking mountains of clothing and linens.

Unfortunately, a percentage of fabric items have to be refused because of soiling (a hygiene issue) or damage – tears, fraying, etc. (a quality issue.)

The kitchen appliances, lamps and small electronics are plugged in or given fresh batteries to assure they are working.

Glass, pottery and decorative items are washed and polished if needed.

To the volunteers, every day is a little like Christmas – anticipating what is in the next bag or box. They especially appreciate the care some customers take to wash, fold and label the donations, e.g.,” Queen sheets + pillowcases,” or “Linen tablecloth 72” by 36”, saving the volunteers much time in getting stock ready for the floor.

As always, we invite you to apply to become a volunteer at the Thrift Shop. Email: annetterobertson11@gmail.com.

Auctions to Watch:

While we are talking about our generous donors, we should mention that occasionally donors will astound us with their contributions to our auctions (found here) or you can use a link on our Facebook page. One donor who is downsizing donated seven like-new silk or wool rugs, fresh from the cleaners. These are high-quality Asian, handsome rugs that will make a statement in any room. This auction closes on February 4th so be sure to bid SOON!

As mentioned in our last newsletter, our online auctions have given a tremendous boost to the RTS revenue. We have regular followers who comment on the quality of the items we auction, and our low buyer’s fee (4%) compared to other auctions which can be as high as 20%.

Please keep the donations coming on Tuesdays and Fridays 12 -4PM!
