Creativity Connects Ridgefield: Meet Phil Goldberg, Photographer, Gourd Grower, Artist

Creativity Connects Ridgefield

What fuels a vibrant, connected, and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Ridgefield?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Ridgefield.

Creativity connects us.

Meet Phil Goldberg, local creative who loves photography, gourd crafting, and bottle engraving (among other artistic things)

Is there an organization in town that inspires you?

I get a lot of inspiration from the Ridgefield Guild of Artists. There are so many really talented people there with exceptional work that covers many facets of creativity. It is so inspiring to see processes and executions of creativity in others.

The Ridgefield Shutterbugs is another group that I belong to and have met a lot of very creative photographers in this group. There are many levels of photographers who are very friendly, creative and open to discuss what they know and how they use their cameras to achieve their results. It feels good to be part of these organizations and to be able to express my own creativity.

Where do you go locally for inspiration and creativity?

Besides finding so many locations around town that lend themselves to capture photographic images, I have recently discovered West Lane Farm, in South Salem (right over the Ridgefield border). The farm is owned by John Papa, a former Ridgefield resident. John's openness to community sharing and creativity has been a blessing. Our Shutterbug group met there for a photo outing and after talking with John about one of my other passions for crafting with gourds, he offered a small piece of his property to me so I could actually try to grow some last year!

A learning experience indeed, but it harvested nearly 100 gourds that will be ready to craft into vessels, bowls, birdhouses, penguins and many other things this spring!

I’m inspired by our town, and its natural landscape. There is art in everything if you look at it with a different eye. I can hardly walk away from a pile of recyclable gems too without being filled with inspiration!  I see things!!!

What do you love about your community?

The Community offers great opportunities to stay current and express creativity. The Shutterbugs, Ridgefield Guild of Artists, Library and the Aldrich Museum are all wonderful places that inspire and keep you wanting to learn and know more.
