Ridgefield Democrats Seek Candidates for Police Commission

The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee is seeking candidates to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Police Commissioners.

At a meeting of the Board of Police Commissioners on April 8, 2021, Nicholas Perna submitted his letter of resignation from the Board, effective on April 9. Mr. Perna was appointed to the Board of Police Commissioners in January 2019, filling a vacancy. He was then elected to Board in November 2019.  He has served our town with skill, mature judgment and dedication. Ridgefield Democrats thank Mr. Perna for his valuable service and wish him well.

The Ridgefield Town Charter requires a board, such as the Board of Police Commissioners, to fill a vacancy with a person who is a member of the same political party as the party on whose row the vacating board member was elected. As Mr. Perna, a Democrat, was elected as a Democrat to a two-year term ending in November 2021, the Board of Police Commissioners is required to appoint a registered Democrat to fill the seat until November 2021.

The Democratic Town Committee (DTC) requests that any registered Democrat in Ridgefield, who may be interested in filling this seat, send a statement of interest as well as a resume or biography (or equivalent) to recruitment@ridgefielddems.org, by Wednesday, April 21, 2021, so that the DTC Recruiting Subcommittee may interview potential candidates and the DTC can send an endorsement to the Board of Police Commissioners for its consideration.

Interested persons are advised that Board of Police Commissioners will conduct its own official selection process for filling the vacancy. The Board’s process is separate from the DTC’s process. The DTC’s endorsement is advisory to the Board of Police Commissioners.
