Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield and RVNAhealth Partner to Vaccinate MOW Homebound Clients

Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield (MOW) has announced a special ‘thank you’ donation of $2500 to be made to RVNAhealth to support at-home vaccinations. The gift recognizes the healthcare organization for the work they have done procuring and administering COVID-19 vaccines to the Ridgefield community, with particular gratitude for RVNAhealth’s service to Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield clients, including homebound residents who are unable to travel to Yanity Gym.

“The COVID-19 vaccination efforts in CT have been swift and effective,” says Dean Miller, Board Chair at MOW, “but for those who are homebound, as well as those without access to computers, the process of getting vaccinated has been a bit daunting. RVNAhealth understood this from the outset and partnered with us and other organizations who support seniors and the homebound to ensure that all our clients had the opportunity to receive the vaccine. We are extremely grateful for RVNAhealth’s partnership in this effort, which brought us health and protection, and also security and peace of mind.”

RVNAhealth began receiving and administering COVID-19 vaccines in early January and immediately recognized the challenges for many populations in getting appointments for the vaccine. “Part of our mission in public health,” explains Theresa Santoro, president and CEO of RVNAhealth, ‘is to identify and serve individuals and populations who don’t have easy access to healthcare. Partnering with Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield to reach their clients is exactly what we are here to do. We are appreciative of Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield’s gift, which helps support some of the unreimbursable costs related to delivering and administering the COVID-19 vaccines to those unable to leave their homes.”

Since January, RVNAhealth has administered over 12,000 COVID-19 Vaccines, both through the partnership with the Town of Ridgefield at Yanity Gym, as well as through special clinics held collaboratively with other municipalities and organizations in need. In recent weeks, RVNAhealth has also extended vaccines to homebound residents.

“Because of our long roots in visiting nursing and home health, we have the infrastructure and experience required to deliver COVID-19 vaccines in the home,” explains Santoro. “And thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners like Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield, special community and public health initiatives like this one are possible.”
