Ridgefield High School lacrosse team may have beat Greenwich in the FCIAC quarterfinals last night, but the team's true victory was what they did for a young boy named Conner Curran.
Editor's note: Ridgefield High School Lacrosse Coach Roy Colsey has provided an opportunity for a young Ridgefield resident that has been nothing short of extraordinary! More important than an FCIAC championship title is making the world a better place. RHS players and Coach Colsey did that last night. Here Christopher Curran, whose son Conner is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), shares his son's awesome experience as an honorary member of the RHS lax team!
Conner is an avid sports fan and wishes every day that he could participate but unfortunately due to Duchenne, the disease he suffers from, walking is difficult, and running is extraordinarily difficult. Coach Roy Colsey heard about Conner’s interest in sports, and he has gone above and beyond to give Conner some incredible team experiences.
Conner was given a Ridgefield Lacrosse varsity jersey and he was thrilled to be invited to ride the bus with the team by Coach Colsey to the FCIAC Playoff tournament quarterfinals against Greenwich. We drove up to the bus full of very rowdy players getting psyched up to play in the tournament and Conner turned to us and said, “Mom and Dad the bus is for players only– I am going on by myself.”
What a great memory for him! We have so much respect and appreciation for the Coach and the entire team for making our kid feel so special when so many days are exceedingly tough for him.
