Three Ridgefield Swimmers Head to Olympic Trials, Watch Them on NBC Live on Sunday!

Three Ridgefielders Head to the U.S. Olympic Trials, Hoping To Swim Their Way to Summer Olympics in Tokyo!

Ridgefield residents Kieran Smith, AJ Bornstein and Connor Hunt, all RHS grads and Ridgefield Aquatic Club alumnae who trained under Emmanuel Lanzo, will swim in the U.S. Olympic Trials starting this Sunday, June 13 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. 

The finals will be broadcast live on NBC through June 20.  The full TV schedule can be viewed HERE.

Hunt, a senior at RHS, will join Bornstein in the pool next year at Michigan. Smith is a swimmer at University of Florida. 

Prelims (Preliminary heats) each day will begin at 11:00 am and finals at 8pm.  

What you need to know:

  • This is the second time in the Olympic Trials for Bornstein and Smith

  • Smith is seeded #2 in the 400 Free and #3 200 Free

  • Smith swam one of the fastest 200 Free long course times in the United States in 2021.

  • The top four finishers in the 200 Free make the Olympic Relay team 

  • The top finisher in Finals is named to the Olympic team that evening

  • The second finisher in Finals will likely make the team, however, the official announcement will not take place until Sunday, June 20th.

The 2021 Summer Olympics are less than six weeks away and will take place in Tokyo at Japan National Stadium beginning July 23, 2021.
