Ridgefield Resident Kieran Smith is Strokes Away from Summer Olympics, Watch Smith on NBC TONIGHT!

Tune into NBC at 8pm TONIGHT to watch Ridgefield resident Kieran Smith swim in the 400 Freestyle finals at the Olympic Trials.

Ridgefield resident Kieran Smith is strokes away from being named to the U.S. Olympic team! Smith qualified for the finals first overall this morning in the penultimate heat with a time of 3:48.06, easily beating rival Zane Grothe who finished in spot 11 and is out of the final. 

According to SwimSwam, Grothe, who has represented the U.S. in 400 Free at each of the last two World Championships and been under 3:46 nine times in his career, labored to a time of 3:50.80.

AJ Bornstein and Connor Hunt joined Smith at the Olympic Trials. All three swimmers are RHS grads and Ridgefield Aquatic Club alumni who trained under Emmanuel Lanzo. Hunt, a senior at RHS, will join Bornstein in the pool next year at Michigan. Smith is a swimmer at the University of Florida. 

The finals will be broadcast live on NBC through June 20.  The full TV schedule can be viewed HERE.

The 2021 Summer Olympics are less than six weeks away and will take place in Tokyo at Japan National Stadium beginning July 23, 2021.
