Ridgefield Resident Kieran Smith Head Makes U.S. Olympic Team!

We have an Olympian in town! Kieran Smith is headed to Tokyo and joins the U.S. Olympic team!

Last night, Ridgefield resident Kieran Smith proved to the world that he was worthy of a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team!

Smith swam the 400 Free to victory at the Olympic Trials at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska with a time of 3:44.86 winning the race by more than three seconds!

Smith, 21, is a Ridgefield High School graduate and Ridgefield Aquatic Club alumni who trained under Emmanuel Lanzo. He currently swims for the Florida Gators and is the first Gator to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team (read more here)

Joining Smith at the Olympic Trials were fellow RHS grads AJ Bornstein and Connor Hunt and Ridgefield Aquatic Club alumni. Hunt, who graduated just days ago from RHS, will join Bornstein in the pool next year at Michigan.

Smith will again be the Trials this morning (Monday) swimming the 200 free. According to Swimming World Magazine, Smith is the top-ranked American in the world at 1:46.30.

The 2021 Summer Olympics are less than six weeks away and will take place in Tokyo at Japan National Stadium beginning July 23, 2021.
