The Ridgefield High School Track and Field team has qualified for the Nike Track Nationals at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon! This is a difficult feat to accomplish and the runners on the team have been working hard over the past 4 years to rise to this level of competition. Only the very best high school athletes in the entire US are invited to attend and we have 10 Ridgefield runners who have qualified (6 boys and 4 girls).
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the seniors on the team who have missed out on a year and a half of competitions and for the underclassmen to get valuable experience. Due to their unwavering dedication to training throughout the pandemic, we think we stand a good chance of setting a State record at Nationals and finally putting Ridgefield on the record books for Connecticut," explains Larry Dunn, co-president of RHS Cross Country and Track Booster Club.
Dunn explains that due to the uncertainty around competitions this year and the unprecedented economic conditions, "we did not do our traditional fundraising last spring, summer, fall or winter. Our team could really use the community support to make this journey more affordable for both the athletes and the coaches."
The current list of athletes slated to attend are:
Amit Markos
Charlie King
Chuckie Namiot
Ben Mickool
Liam Carcich
Steven Hergenrother
Madison Mueller
Katie Rector
Georgia Keller
Regan McGrath – rising junior
