Kieran Smith Completes Olympic Debut, Earns Bronze in 400 Free, Now Cheers for Team USA!

Ridgefield resident Kieran Smith completed his Olympic debut last night by leading off the men’s 4x200 relay composed of Drew Kibler, Zach Apple, Townley Haas. Team USA finished in 4th place with a time of 7:02.43.  Britain finished first at 6:58.58.

For the first time since the start of the Tokyo Olympics, Smith posted on Instagram @kieransmith 

I’ve finished competing in these Tokyo Games! I’m very proud to have contributed to Team USA’s medal count. Time to be the best cheerleader this country has ever seen

Smith, who won the bronze medal for Team USA on Saturday evening, finished in 6th place last on Monday in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.12. 

Smith, 21, is a Ridgefield High School graduate and Ridgefield Aquatic Club alumni who trained under Emmanuel Lanzo. He currently swims for the Florida Gators and is the first Gator to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team (read more here). He began swimming at age seven.
