We caught up with Amy to see how things are going five years on...

Q: What inspired the opening of Whip Salon?

AP: I saw a need here in Ridgefield and thought it would be a glamorous industry to be a part of, but I underestimated how complex the beauty industry was! The first year was a great deal of trial and error but once we got the formula right, we started to really take off. I've learned a lot and I'm proud to have built something that resonates with clients and stylists alike.

Q: Can you share some goals you have for the future of the Whip Salon brand?

AP: Five years in, I'm feeling like we are in the groove. Probably most exciting of all is we are migrating to a new client software system which is going to be a game changer for how we book and manage appointments. We are also gearing up to launch a new line of organic hair products which I can't wait to announce. And of course, we continually keep on top of trends and education to ensure our clients are looking and feeling their best.

Q: How did you navigate the pandemic in order to emerge successfully?

AP: The pandemic has been humbling to say the least. We were forced to be closed last year by government mandate for 75 days followed by capacity and mask restrictions. The hardest part is there's just no precedent, you're just flying blind and trying to do your best by employees and clients alike. It's been tough, but our team is SO strong and resilient. We aren't going anywhere I can tell you that....people like and need someone else to do their hair and we'll always make it work. We communicate, we help each other, we're patient and we just figure it out. It's all about focusing on the positive even when things get difficult and that's been our saving grace.

Q: How did you come up with the name " Whip Salon"

AP: This was a slang term my friends and I used to call our hair in my college days. I thought Whip Salon was catchy and would differentiate us in the market and break the mold of predictable names. I wanted something cool that felt like the kind of quality and vibe you would get in the city.
