Ridgefield Resident Dorothy Nina (Savastano) Carideo, 93, has Died

Dorothy Nina (Savastano) Carideo, 93, of Ridgefield, Connecticut passed away peacefully on September 25, 2021 at Laurel Ridge Health Care Center where she has resided since 2019.

She was the loving wife of Angelo Robert Carideo who predeceased her in September of 2019.

Dorothy was born in Mount Vernon, New York on May 25, 1928; the eldest child born of the late James and Margaret (Farina) Savastano and predeceased by her brother James Savastano.

She graduated from A.B. Davis High School and married her high school sweetheart Angelo on February 17, 1952, and shortly thereafter started her family in Mt. Vernon, New York. The family lived in Scarsdale, New York from 1968 until 1978, and then moved to Rye, New York until 2000. The family then moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut, the place that became home for more than 20 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Dorothy was an avid reader and signed up for book clubs at any chance she could. She loved the library in Ridgefield. She loved shopping, hats, scarves, and jewelry, but especially hats.

She also loved flowers, especially orchids. She was a member of Girl Scout Troop #2 and was proud of her years of participation both as a youth and as an adult.

She loved St. Mary’s Parish and the Adoration Chapel as well as the church sales and luncheons. She loved the communion services at Laurel Ridge every Sunday; and for that the family is very thankful. She loved being involved in the activities at Laurel Ridge including arts, jewelry making, rosary and prayer groups, the wonderful staff, and her friends.

Dorothy's husband, Angelo, was a Notre Dame University graduate and she loved watching the football games and cherished the friends they made over their lifetime. She was also a Yankees fan and enjoyed her trips to see a game with her sons.

As a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother she was at her best. She was smart, beautiful, and kind. She loved social gatherings with her family and friends and loved a good barbecue or party.

She loved to travel and visiting wineries. She adored her grandchildren and was proud of all of them; they brought her joy. She always asked for updates on their trumpet playing, schooling and grades, dance classes and sports, work, and any other activities they may be involved in. Her four great granddaughters made her laugh and she felt blessed to have them all nearby.

A generous spirit and faith live on in all of her children. She was truly beautiful, and we all loved her every day she was here. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at Laurel Ridge and Athena hospice.

Dorothy is survived by her five children: Thomas Carideo of Norwalk (Debra), Mary Ellen Brennan of Danbury (Martin), Stephen Carideo of Danbury (Ann), William Carideo of Colchester, Connecticut (Lisa), and Christopher Carideo of Cary, North Carolina (Patricia). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Colleen, Julie, Margaret, Sarah, Katharine, Kelly, Christopher John, Daniel, Sierra, and Kelsey as well as 4 great grandchildren: Emily, Chloe, Lindsay, and Noelle. In addition, Dorothy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 1:30 PM at St. Elizabeth Seton Church; 520 Ridgebury Road; Ridgefield, Connecticut.
