Ridgefield High School Music Dept. Announces Oct. Student of the Month

The RHS Music Department proudly names Alyza Crook as October’s Student of the Month.

Alyza has often been characterized as a compassionate leader by many members of the music community. Her dedication and responsibility are best seen through her leadership and active participation within the music program’s various groups.

In her time at Ridgefield High School, the 12th-grade musician has been a flutist for Wind Ensemble as well as a vocalist for Chorus, Madrigals, and RHS Sings. This year, she assumed the role of Band Chief of Staff after being an Assistant Chief of Staff last year. Some of her many responsibilities include overseeing the student leaders within the RHS Music Program and organizing communication within the Leadership Council. Through all her actions, Alyza has made a meaningful impact on her peers.

“My favorite thing about the music program is the community and all the ways you can get involved,” said Alyza in an interview. “There are so many amazing people that I have met through being a part of the music programs, and so many opportunities to make a difference in the RHS community.”

Aside from her deep involvement in the music program, Alyza holds a second-degree black belt in taekwondo, is a mentor and treasurer for Ms President US, and is the founder and president of RHS Sings. Additionally, Alyza has made impressive strides as a National Honors Society Member, a receiver of the Profiles in Courage Certificate of Excellence, and as a member of the Girl Scouts by earning the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards.

“Alyza is a talented, thoughtful and caring member of our program,” comments RHS Band Director, George Beratis. “She is not only the chief of staff for Band which means she's my ‘go-to’ person, but she's also a very important member of Wind Ensemble and madrigals. There seemingly isn't anything Alyza can't handle and she's a great role model for all our student musicians in every facet."

As she prepares for college, Alyza hopes to continue music in some way in addition to her studies. The RHS music community congratulates Alyza Crook on her impressive achievements and thanks her for her dedication and contribution to the program.
