Ridgefield loses a beloved member of the community: 8th grade student Logan Hale passes

This afternoon, Dr. Susie Da Silva, Superintendent of Ridgefield Public Schools, shared the devastating news that Logan Hale, a courageous 8th-grade student at East Ridge Middle School, passed away.

The community has rallied behind Logan and the Hale family when learning that his cancer recently relapsed. There were drive-by events, all kinds of well-wishes, social media buzz #fightlighhale, and the RHS football team gave Logan a special #52 helmet. “My son smiled from ear to ear,” his mom Kristina Hale said.

Logan flipped the switch to light up downtown during this year's Holiday Tree Lighting.

Today, our hearts and prayers are with Logan’s family and his many, many friends. Dr. Da Silva said, "Logan will be remembered for his strength, smile and kindness toward others, as well as the way in which he cherished his friendships."

The RPS is offering support to students and their families through this incredibly difficult time.  "We recognize that the grieving process will look different for each student- and we want to support our students and their families in every way possible," said Da Silva.

ERMS and SRMS counselors and other mental health staff will be available for students tomorrow, December 31st, and Saturday, January 1st.

Children who prefer in-person support may come to ERMS between 12 noon and 2 pm either day. Students and their parents should visit the counseling suite in the Main Office (2nd floor).

Students who wish to access virtual support can fill out this google form and a counselor will send a google meet link to the student’s rps.net account for a scheduled time during the selected session window.

Da Silva shared the following resources may be helpful when supporting children through the grieving process.
