A Few Bits from RPS Superintendent Da Silva: Parent Workshop, Tiger Talk, At-home Test Kits and More!

A Few BITS from Ridgefield Public School (RPS) Superintendent Dr. Susie Da Silva

Parent Workshop

Our Parent Workshop Series continues next week, with our third parent presentation on Thursday, January 20th, at 9:30 a.m. This workshop is called, “How Students Learn Mathematics”. In this workshop, K-12 math leaders will share what instruction looks like across the levels and how the mathematical practice standards teach students to think like mathematicians. Similar to past parent workshops, parents will be given a link prior to and during the presentation (on the YouTube Channel under the video), for questions. Those questions will be answered live during the presentation or responded to in email. If you click on the RPS YouTube Curriculum Channel now, you will see the presentation from this week, from the World Language Department, called, “Learning a Language for Life”. The department leaders did a great job in this workshop communicating what learning looks like in RPS. This link is the same link that will be used for all of our virtual parent workshops. For even easier access to the channel, subscribe!

Ridgefield Tiger Talk

In this week’s episode, we get a quick update from the Director of Nursing Services, Aaron Crook. We discuss the new changes in Covid policy/procedures for schools, answer some commonly asked questions, and run through our process in interpreting these guidelines. Thanks for listening!

Health and Safety

This week the CT DPH issued a FAQ of updated considerations for COVID-19 quarantine, isolation, testing and contact tracing practices in CT schools. The FAQ can be found here.

RPS now has a supply of rapid at home tests for both staff and students. These tests will be distributed by the school nurse for any staff or student who is symptomatic for COVID-19 and has been in the school building within the last 48 hours.

Each of our main offices has a supply of N95 masks available to all faculty and staff who request them.

Food Service

We understand that the National School Lunch Program State/Federal requirements can create a lot of confusion among students/families, so Chartwells has drafted a one-page simplified explanation with the "need to know" information attached here. We hope this helps everyone.
