Ridgefield Guild of Artists’ Call for Artists: Picturing Our Past Special Collaboration with the Ridgefield History Society

Ridgefield Guild of Artists is coming together with the Ridgefield Historical Society this spring to celebrate its 20th Anniversary this spring.

The Guild is looking for artists in all media to participate in our Picturing Our Past exhibition running March 12th – April 2, 2022.  Deadline to apply is Saturday, February 26th at 11:59pm through EntryThingy.com.  Visit https://www.rgoa.org to find the prospectus with full details about applying to be part of this special show.

We ask local artists to use the town of Ridgefield and its rich history as inspiration. Drawing from the past, artists are encouraged to explore the Historical Society’s Collections for inspiration (photos, postcards, maps, newspapers, architectural archives, artifacts, and so much more). Find an intriguing artifact like a historic wedding photo, Native American map of Connecticut, hand-colored post card of Ridgefield’s rambling estates from the turn-of-the century, or images of great women suffragists!

Three easy ways to gather inspiration for this exhibit:

  •       Head to The Historical Society located at 4 Sunset Lane, across from the Hideaway Restaurant. Please email Betsy Reid, Collections Manager at breid@ridgefieldhistoricalsociety.org or call 203-438-5821 to make an appointment to look at town artifacts to inspire you about Ridgefield’s rich historical, cultural, and architectural heritage!
  •       Explore the Collections section of the Ridgefield Historical Society’s website on your own by visiting https://ridgefield.pastperfectonline.com/.
  •       Work on something on your own inspired by Ridgefield's beautiful town, an outdoor setting, an old building you admire or a depiction of an historic event. It's up to you!

Plan to visit the Picturing Our Past exhibition when it opens on March 12th with a reception from 4-6pm. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 12-4pm. The Guild of Artists’ antique gallery barn is located at the bottom of 34 Halpin Lane just before the Rail Trail. Visit www.rgoa.org or call the Guild at 203.438.8863 for more information about this show and all Guild offerings. RGOA is a tax-exempt 501c3 non-profit arts organization, now in its 48th year. All contributions are gratefully accepted.
