Ridgefield High School Music Department Names Joshua Barnett May Student of the Month

The Ridgefield High School Music Department is excited to name Joshua Barnett as its May Student of the Month.

Throughout his time as a member of the orchestra program, Joshua has been both a skilled musician and reliable student leader, always up for a challenge.

As a freshman, the bassist joined Concert Orchestra in its inaugural year. He soon moved up the ranks as a sophomore, becoming a member of Symphonic Orchestra while joining Chamber Orchestra. As a current senior, Joshua serves as the principal bassist for both the high school’s Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras.

For Joshua, the best part of being in the music program is the unique rigor it requires. “I most enjoy the music,” says the senior. “Mr. Mac is always trying to challenge us, and the pieces he selects always make me feel like I'm becoming a better player by learning them.” For the recent orchestra concert on May 11, Symphonic Orchestra ambitiously performed the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 -- a testament to said challenge.

In addition to constantly honing his musical abilities, Joshua has grown in other disciplines as well. He currently plays house soccer with the Soccer Club of Ridgefield and has practiced karate since he was 6 years old. As he prepares to depart RHS, Joshua looks to major in computer science.

The RHS Music Department thanks Joshua for his longstanding commitment to music and wishes him the best for the future.
