A Few Bits from RPS Superintendent Dr. Da Silva: BOE Meeting, Art Shows, Kindergarten Registration, and More!

A Few Bits from RPS Superintendent Dr. Susie Da Silva

Board of Education Meeting

We will have a Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 23. Please be reminded that while you may watch the meeting from home (link here), all public comments must be made in person (you can comment at the beginning or end of the meeting.)  You can find the agenda here

ART SHOWS

Scotland Elementary School was our first elementary school to celebrate student art this spring. Parents and students strolled through multiple exhibits around the school, while listening to classical music and eating gelato. At the end of the Art Walk families were able to visit the school Book Fair.

Here are some examples of the many works on display and art teacher Megan Kounnas and Principal Jill Katkocin.

Ridgefield Tiger Talk

In this week’s podcast we welcome Lori Bran and Stacy Marchionni; both are school counselors at Ridgefield High School and run the Senior Internship Program. We learn about the 20-plus year history of the program; the many different types of internships that our students can go on;  how the community embraces these students; and the incredible skills they pick up for the real world. Thanks for listening!

RPS Kindergarten Registration

Help!  If you have a friend or neighbor who is planning on joining kindergarten next year, remind them that registration is open!  Families now have the opportunity to register using our brand new online system. Click here to take a look!  Registration status impacts our ability to maintain and/or hire teachers.

Parks and Recreation

Ridgefield Parks and Recreation offers a variety of summer programming to children. They are also looking for summer staff.  If you are interested and available, contact: campcoor@rigefield.org.

Parent Workshop on How to Support Summer Learning

On Tuesday, May 24 at 9:30 a.m., the Curriculum Department will present to families suggestions for how to keep learning active during the summer months. The suggestions will expand across content areas and grade levels. Click here for more information.

Health and Safety

COVID-19 cases are updated on the RPS COVID-19 tracker on a daily basis. You can find the tracker at this web address: link.https://sites.google.com/ridgefieldps.net/rps-covid-19-data-2021-2022/home

During this period of increased cases we strongly encourage families to test. We have an ample supply of at-home rapid antigen tests in each school nurse’s office. Please reach out to your school building or your school nurse to obtain a test kit. Families may also want to consider opting to have their child wear a high quality mask as an added mitigation measure.

As a reminder for families, students, and staff- anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 must stay home from school and contact your school nurse. When returning to school, please remember to provide either a negative COVID-19 test result or a note from your physician stating a diagnosis other than COVID-19.  For home test results, please take a photo of the test with name and date taken, then send it to your school nurse.
