The Maritime Rowing Club dominated the medal podium at the 2022 Youth National Championships held June 9-12 in Sarasota, Florida, bringing home 3 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals!
With 778 entries and 3,500 athletes representing 210 clubs from all over the country, the event was the largest ever. All crews had to qualify for the regatta through regional regattas held last month. Maritime Rowing qualified a record 19 crews in the Youth, U17, U16 and U15 age categories.
Gold medals were won by the Men’s U17 Quad, Men’s U16 Coxed Quad and the Women’s U15 Coxed Quad. Silver medals were won by the Women’s Youth 2x, (bowed by Ridgefield HS senior Jax Mantione), Women’s U16 Coxed Quad, and Men’s U17 Double. Bronze medals were won in the Men’s Youth Quad and Men’s U17 Four with Coxswain.
“The results across the board show that the team has tremendous depth and maturity. We have many strong returning athletes, so the future is exciting!” said Yan Vengerovskiy, Co-Founder of MRC and Head Boys Coach.
“We saw a lot of success in all the different age groups. It's great to see our seniors ending their high school rowing on a high note and it's exciting to see all our younger athletes just getting started!” says Yulia Chagina, MRC Head Girls Coach.
This regatta was also the final High School event for the club’s graduating class of 2022 including Jax Mantione of Ridgefield, who will attend Northwestern University this Fall.
