The Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center (KTM&HC) was the place to be on this glorious 4th of July! Not a cloud in the sky, a warm breeze, and sounds of children's laughter were reminders that we are truly fortunate to live in America and Ridgefield, Connecticut.
KTM&HC’s annual July 4th festivities have long been a fun and patriotic Ridgefield tradition, and after a two-year hiatus, today's celebration was GRAND.
In addition to being historical for our country, today, July 4th, marks the day that the museum first opened its doors in 1966. Wow!
Patriotism and old-fashioned fun were plentiful at Keeler Tavern as kids played colonial-era games on the museum lawn, enjoyed crafts, a dunk tank, and juicy watermelon. Angry O’Haras added pizazz with bluegrass music! The fun continued inside the museum where there were tours and family activities in the historic carriage barn.
After bells tolled 13 times at 2pm (Let Freedom Ring is long-standing tradition celebrating our independence) attendees were treated to a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Did you know? The Keeler Tavern Museum was designated as an historical landmark in 1982. The Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center is committed to promoting Ridgefield’s history and heritage through programs, tours, and special events (and today was incredibly special!)
And... the celebration isn't over! The Town of Ridgefield Fireworks will be held on Saturday, July 9. Sponsored by Fairfield County Bank, the traditional community event takes place at Ridgefield High School. Parking passes are $20 per car. Read more here.
