Enjoying summer days close to home, at events and venues unique to your hometown, are some of the most memorable experiences in life (plus, you can get cozy in your own bed at the end of a fun-filled day).

Our series “What makes you crack a smile” highlights the local people, places and events that make our community an enjoyable place to live.

Tell us about your favorite summertime destination Ridgefield

I love going downtown to the hardware store on a sunny Saturday late morning. I'll often make an excuse just to go pick up one or two items. It is so much fun to see everyone out and about and almost always topped off with an opportunity to stop and chat with the manager, Sarah, about what wildlife has been passing through our yards. I feel so at home.

What summer activity in Ridgefield makes you crack a smile?

Wendy and I just love going for a walk. We don't do it enough, but every time we do we end up stopping somewhere for a quick bite and, without fail, always run into a friend (or several).

Do you have a cherished memory of summer in Ridgefield?

I love it when I'm out in the garden and people drive by and honk to say hello. But I love it even more when people stop in to say hello! (maybe sending them home with some lavender, herbs or whatever is growing).
