Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Dr. Carolyn Couture Personalized Medical Care!
Three questions with Dr. Couture.
Why did you start your business?
The primary motivation for starting my concierge practice was my desire to provide high quality patient-focused care. Personalized care is what all patients deserve. The time constraints of traditional primary care make this difficult and leave almost no time to focus on preventative medicine. I enjoy listening to patients and creating an individualized approach to help them achieve a healthy lifestyle. My mission as an adult primary care physician is to achieve the best outcomes for my patients by combining medical evidence and patient preferences. Additionally, I believe that having the time available to coordinate with specialists and hospitals is vital to excellent primary care. I want to be an advocate for patients in a complex medical system.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
I know from my entrepreneurial experience that it takes a supportive team to turn your dream into a business.
• Kristen Jensen of Kristen Jensen Lifestyles in Bethel, CT captured the headshot photos you’ll see on my website.
• I am so grateful for Dr. Kikelomo Otuyelu-Garritano of HER Wellness Center in Wilton for sharing her office space, allowing me to see patients while my office was under construction.
• The Tweaked Home (Sarah Sullivan and Nicole Fortson) of Ridgefield have worked in my home and I'm excited that you will see their aesthetic touches enhancing my office space soon!
• Accountant, Josh Teplitsky, of Teplitsky & Company, P.C. in Woodbridge and Jef Wolter of UKS (Updike, Kelly and Spellacy, P.C.) in Hartford provided excellent counsel with practice set up.
• Southridge Technology in Brookfield is providing IT support for the practice.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
In order to devote more time to each patient’s care and individual needs, I have intentionally limited the size of my practice. I also offer certain non-covered amenities and benefits designed to personalize and enhance the health care experience:
• In-office appointments will start promptly, with little or no waiting time.
• Virtual visits via telemedicine are offered as an option upon patient request.
• Longer, unhurried appointments are the standard at this practice. Routine visits are scheduled for 30 minutes, and comprehensive annual health assessments are scheduled for 60 minutes. If an issue requires extra time for evaluation or discussion, I will accommodate you to the best of my ability.
• After hours for urgent issues, you will be able to contact me on my personal cell phone, making it easier than ever to communicate. I have a dedicated membership information phone line to call (203) 442-1190 if you are interested in this personalized level of care or have any questions about the concierge model. We would love to hear from you, neighbors!
