Liz Kaul, Active Member of St. Mary Parish in Ridgefield, has died

Elizabeth “Liz” Kaul, 82 of Ridgefield, died peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2023. She was the loving wife of Rolf-Achim Kaul.

Elizabeth was born in Cork City, Co. Cork, Ireland on August 1, 1940; a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Shinnick) Duane and the youngest of 8 children. She married the love of her life, Rolf-Achim, on June 15, 1968, in London. They emigrated to the United States on April 1, 1969, and they worked as a domestic couple and ran their own catering business.

Elizabeth was a faithful and beloved parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Ridgefield, CT. She attended mass daily and participated in all church activities. She served as a Eucharist Minister, and was an active participant in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel and also cared for the flowers in and outside the Chapel for many years. She had an amazing love for animals. Above all, Elizabeth was a true giver. One would never leave her house without some sort of food, almost always homemade.

When not praying or saying the rosary, Elizabeth enjoyed vacationing, gardening, cooking (and was she an AMAZING cook!), making dried flower arrangements, going on long walks, and above all doting over her loving husband.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 54 years, Rolf-Achim, and their two children; Monica Lynch and her husband Thomas Lynch and Ursula Stello-Jones and her husband Steve Jones. Elizabeth is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Victor Stello, Connor Stello, Niamh Lynch, and Declan Lynch. In addition, Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Rev. Daniel Duane (who married them) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers Thomas Duane, Jim Duane, Gerard Duane, and Patrick Duane, and her sisters Mary Travers and Tess O’Mahony.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary’s Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately; there will be no calling hours. Following the funeral mass, family and friends are invited to a reception at 850 Degrees Restaurant; 424 Main Street, Ridgefield.
