Western CT Youth Orchestra announces a call for auditions for its 2023-2024 Season.
Applications for its Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble are now open and auditions are scheduled for June 6, 7, and 8, 2023. Interested Musicians are invited to an open rehearsal on Thursday evening, April 27th, to be held at Scotts Ridge Middle School, 750 North Salem Rd, in Ridgefield.
The WCYO Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Eric Mahl, is a full symphonic orchestra made up of advanced string, woodwind, brass and percussion musicians ranging in age from 13 to 18. The ensemble performs professional orchestral repertoire, from staples of the classical genre to music of the 21st century. Wind, brass and percussion musicians in the Symphony Orchestra also participate in an advanced concert band with musicians from the WCYO Wind Ensemble.
The WCYO String Orchestra, conducted by Joanna Giordano, is an intermediate string ensemble for advancing middle school and early high school musicians. This group focuses on strengthening the various fundamentals of ensemble performance and comprehensive string instruction, and performs intermediate to advanced level traditional and contemporary repertoire.
The WCYO Wind Ensemble, conducted by Malin Carta, is comprised of advanced woodwind, brass and percussion middle school and high school musicians. This group focuses on strengthening the various fundamentals of ensemble performance and skill development, and performs both woodwind and jazz ensemble repertoire, as well as big band and concert band repertoire.
Student musicians, their parents or guardians, and music teachers are invited to learn more about WCYO at the Open Rehearsal on April 27th. For the String Orchestra, stop in anytime between 5pm and 6pm, for the Wind Ensemble, anytime between 7pm and 8:15pm and for the Symphony Orchestra anytime from 6pm to 8pm. Musicians may bring their instrument and sit-in or simply observe and speak with the conductors during breaks.

Founded in 2002, Western CT Youth Orchestra is a non-profit auditioned youth orchestra program based in Ridgefield, CT. In addition to its school-year based ensemble program it offers an advanced chamber music education program and professional concert series via the Charles Ives Music Festival at WCYO.
