Tops in Their Field: “2016 Top Doctor” Specialists at Danbury Orthopedics

Danbury Orthopedics’ specialists have once again been recognized as leading surgeons in the field of orthopedics for 2016. Moffly Media’s magazines, Greenwich, Westport, Fairfield, New Canaan/Darien, and Stamford all published their Top Docs list in their January/February issues. The magazines partner with Castle Connolly – a nationwide survey organization that publishes a highly respected America’s Top Doctors® list based on peer review. In other words, doctors named to the Castle Connolly list are the specialists their own colleagues cite as tops in their field.

Danbury Orthopedics has multiple doctors named to this prestigious list. We are pleased and proud to announce that Dr. Michael Brand, Dr. Joseph DiGiovanni, Dr. Ross Henshaw and Dr. John Lunt have all received recognition on the 2016 Top Doctors list.

According to Castle Connolly’s stringent criteria, all Top Doctors are carefully processed for review based on their number of nominations, educational merits and training, current board certifications and other professional achievements.

Meet the Honorees

Dr. Michael Brand, who serves as President of Danbury Orthopedics, is a Harvard University trained sports medicine specialist with advanced expertise in treating knee and shoulder problems. He has helped to bring state-of-the-art arthroscopic techniques to the Danbury region, enabling patients to achieve faster recoveries and improved outcomes. He has worked with professional sports teams, is co-founder of the Western Connecticut Sports Medicine Society, and has been instrumental in creating innovative injury prevention programs at area schools. His extensive experience in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and the full spectrum of knee issues is a vital resource to area patients. Dr. Brand is widely recognized for his work in reconstructive knee surgery, arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery and ACL surgery.

Dr. Ross Henshaw, a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, completed his fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Henshaw is highly sought by athletes for his skill in advanced arthroscopic techniques to treat shoulder, hip and knee injuries through incisions no wider than a fingernail. He has provided medical coverage for Yankee Stadium, The New York Mets, the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament, and the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament. His publications include papers on rotator cuff injuries, ACL injuries, and orthopedic implants. An athlete himself, he excels at innovative techniques to help patients achieve optimal recovery as quickly as possible.

Dr. John Lunt, a renowned specialist in surgery of the upper extremities, trained at St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. His fellowship was in hand surgery at Columbia Presbyterian. While medical co-director at the Hand Center of Western Connecticut, he earned a reputation as the ‘go-to’ doctor for problems other specialists could not identify. Using advanced diagnostic tools, he excels at recognizing rare nerve compression problems and other complex nerve issues that challenge detection. Dr. Lunt’s expertise encompasses pediatric and adult sports injuries, minimally invasive endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery, and management of ailments such as tendonitis and arthritis. He is the founder of the Danbury Hand Club, and member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the New York and New England Hand Societies.
