Chowder Fans Predict Bailey's Backyard in Ridgefield to Win 2017 Chowdafest

Chowder Fans Predict 5 Restaurants to Win Chowdafest

Westport, CT – September 1, 2017 – For the past two months, over 100,000 people checked out the Predict the Winner online sweepstakes presented by Mohegan Sun.  Foodies from all over the country predicted who will win across five different countries.  They could vote once a day which gave them a chance to win a FREE “Stay & Slurp” hotel and Chowdafest ticket package.

City Fresh Market from Wethersfield CT has been predicted to win the New England clam chowder category over America's favorite chowder and two-time defending champ, Pike Place Market who travels from Seattle WA to compete.  “This could be an upset right up there with the US beating Russia in hockey” said an amused Jim Keenan, event director.  “But if they weren't good, we wouldn't have invited them.  All our entrants are exceptional so we'll see what the results are after people try all of them”

Dunville's of Westport CT is predicted to win the traditional clam chowder category reserved just for clear broth Rhode Island clam chowder and tomato based Manhattan clam chowder.  Dunville's has won this category twice for their Manhattan clam chowder and this year will enter their Rhode Island clam chowder.  This category has four past champions in it including defending champion Donahue's Clam Castle of Madison CT

Three of the five predicted category winners include Crabby Al's from Thomaston CT.  People believe their spicy crab & corn chowder will upset two time defending champion Our House Bistro from Winooski VT.  This category surely showcases the culinary talents behind chowders like smoked salmon & oyster chowder, bourbon bacon & corn chowder, a blue crab & corn chowder and a Caribbean clam chowder!

Rory's of Darien CT is predicted to win the soup & bisque category entering their lobster bisque for the first time.  Rory's had been a crowd favorite with their New England clam chowder over the years.  Rory's was predicted to win over  the Crab Shell in Stamford CT who has won this category on three separate occasions and is going for an unprecedented fourth title for their lobster bisque.

Bailey's Backyard of Ridgefield CT is predicted to win the new vegetarian category that can feature either a chowder, soup or bisque as long as it's vegetarian.  They're entering a white bean and corn chowder.  The category includes entries like a truffle mushroom bisque and a zucchini blossom bisque.

“Every year, we work hard to invite the most competitive restaurant line-up.  This year's line-up is arguably the best yet and I expect the voting to be closer than ever.  After all, it's a competition among the best of the best.  What I like best is that we're a true people's choice event.  Their votes determine the best in New England” noted Keenan

Tickets are on sale online at www.chowdafest.org/tickets. $20 adults, $5 kids (6-12) and parking is FREE.  You can save $5 on every adult ticket if you're a AAA member.
