Get Fit in 2018: JoyRide Cycling + Fitness Studio and JoyX to Host New JoyFit Challenge

After a busy holiday season of parties, dinners, and indulgences, January is the perfect time to press the reset button to get fit, healthy and lose unwanted pounds.

JoyRide Cycling + Fitness Studio, the premier fitness boutique dedicated to high-end indoor cycling and cross-training floor classes, and JoyX, the new hybrid studio combining boxing, rowing and boot camp-style classes, will make it easier for people to launch the new year with a brand-new JoyFit Challenge in January. Instead of making hard-to-attain fitness and diet resolutions, this month-long, fun competition among JoyRiders will challenge riders to kickstart their goals -- and will help people make healthy lifestyle choices all year long. At the end of the four weeks, the male and female who achieved the biggest percentage weight loss will win large prizes from JoyRide and local businesses, valuing at more than $3,000 for each winner.

“You have to fuel your body with the right nutrients to achieve both your optimal athletic performance and ideal weight goals,” said JoyRide creative director and lead instructor Rhodie Lorenz, who founded JoyRide with Amy Hochhauser, both Westport residents, more than seven years ago.

Designed and led by registered dietician Ilanit Blumenfeld in all five studios in Connecticut (JoyRide Westport, JoyRide Ridgefield, JoyRide Darien, JoyRide Wilton and JoyX Westport) and two studios in San Antonio, Texas, the four-week program consists of nutritional coaching, including meal plans and recipes, support and JoyRide boutique fitness classes. The series will run from January 10 to February 8, 2018.

Blumenfeld will develop detailed weekly meal plans based on a low-calorie, high-fiber diet, complete with easy recipes, for four weeks. Participants can also replace meals with others and mix it up. She believes that food should be functional and serve as fuel throughout the day to maximize healthy weight and energy levels. “Your body is like a car,” she said. “You can’t run on empty.”

Also, Blumenfeld will choose several local, popular restaurants such as Aux Delices, The Granola Bar, Bar Taco and Organika and identify healthy options when ordering in or eating out. Participants will also have access to a private Facebook page, monitored by Blumenfeld, for support, advice, tips, and camaraderie around a collective goal of exercising and eating healthy. She will conduct confidential weigh-ins to calculate one’s Body Mass Index (BMI) at the beginning and end of the four-week challenge.

“I don’t believe in fad diets -- instead I help my clients eat healthier and make long lasting changes that work for them, depending on their particular needs and lifestyle,” said Blumenfeld, a Scarsdale resident. “I made the weight loss meal plan flexible and the recipes easy to make, because I want everyone to succeed and have fun while doing it. After the challenge you will realize how easy it is to lose weight and keep it off!”

How to Participate and How to Win
To participate, JoyRiders must purchase 10- or 20-packs of classes or an unlimited monthly package. There is no additional charge for the competition or nutritional support. Participants must take at least four classes per week at JoyRide, JoyX, or online at Forte.fit to qualify to win prizes. JoyRiders must have a BMI of 19 percent or more to participate. At the end of the four-week challenge, there will be one male winner and one female winner, each determined by the percentage of body weight lost. The two winners will take home large prize bundles, including a new Joy100 pack of 100 JoyRide classes (value: $2200), gift cards from local restaurants and stores, including Lucy’s, Dovecote, West, Restore Cryotherapy, The Cottage, Kerri Rosenthal, Lymbr, VanGo, Tiem Shoes, Village Tavern, Susi Laura Massage, Adam Broderick Salon, Nature’s Temptations, Medicinal Skin, Audrey Road and more.
