Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Let’s make 2018 a big year for our Ridgefield small businesses and put a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community.
Three questions with Sean Kilroy, owner of The Frame Shop of Ridgefield.
Why did you start your business?
I started custom picture framing back as a freshman in college to compliment my studies in Art and Illustration. As one thing led to another I began running frame shops and Art galleries, which enabled me to see various things that worked or didn't work from a business standpoint while honing my skills as a custom picture framer. Looking back, I consider that experience as somewhat of a very long internship. Those experiences gave me the desire to bring my profession back to a level it once was, where personalized customer service and high-quality craftsmanship were held in high regard and not compromised by the gradual commercialization of the industry. It was that desire and love of the trade that led me to open my own frame shop and art gallery in 2012, one of the best decisions I ever made. I get to work with a lot of great people and design and create something new and different from one day to the next, I wouldn't have it any other way!
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Best selling product/service?
That would certainly have to be our custom picture framing services. From the conservation framing of a priceless 17th-century map or an original work by a famous artist to your treasured family photos and children's artwork. There's no job too big or too small. It's also this service that enables us to keep the gallery running and support local artists!
