Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Let’s make 2018 a big year for our Ridgefield small businesses and put a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community.

Three questions with Doug Hutton, owner of Hutton's Fine Men's Wear.

Why did you start your business?

This business has been in my family since the late 1800's.  My great grandfather William emigrated from Scotland, opened a tailoring shop in Southington, and eventually began to sell dry goods and ready to wear clothing. We opened our store in here [on Bailey Ave] in 2004.

I wish I could...

I wish I could find another community as vibrant and supportive as Ridgefield in which to open another store.  Successful small businesses require not only compelling product and service but also a community mindfully engaged in the support of their local businesses.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We rely on Squash's for office supplies and Ridgefield Hardware for all kinds of things. Mulvaney Plumbing and Knoche Electric keep our lights on and our water flowing.  HamletHub and the Ridgefield Press are how we try to keep our name in front of people, and Tazza, Deborah Ann's, and Tuscan Cup keep us all going with great coffee, the best chocolates and killer scones.  It's great to be here.

Hutton's Fine Men's Wear is located at 15 Bailey Ave in Ridgefield. Visit them online here or call (203) 438-6989.
