Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. Since the campaign began in January 2018, more than 60 Ridgefield businesses have been "tagged" and given the opportunity to share their story.
Why did you start your business?
I was fortunate enough to become a part of The Ridgefield Dance when Nancy Baldwin Andrews moved into the space we now occupy at 66 Grove Street. I was looking for a studio to rent for an adult class, and The Ridgefield School of Dance was growing into new space. I met with Nancy to discuss my renting some space and it was apparent she needed someone to help with the business side of things.
I started working as the business manager and learned about the school and its mission, knew all of the teachers, parents and students and truly enjoyed all of the time I spent not only at the studio, but organizing the sessions. When Nancy decided to sell the school in 2014, it was a perfect fit. We shook hands and this July will begin my fifth year as owner.
I wish I could add a few more classes! With limited afterschool time and space limitations, we must be creative with what we offer and when.
Best selling product/service?
Everything we do is dance-related. We have classes for 3-year-olds through adults. I am very pleased that our classes are a nice size with most being between 6 and 10 students. The small size allows teachers to give a lot of one on one attention.
I tag Joy of Movement! They are so helpful and accommodating to our dancers and their families.
