The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, located at 258 Main Street in Ridgefield, is garnering community support so they can bring Risa Puno's installation to The Aldrich as part of the Museum's Sculpture Garden Reactivation Program. They have launched a Kickstarter campaign - read about the project and make a donation HERE.
"It will mark the first of what will hopefully be many ways to bring life back to this unique and beautiful space," The Aldrich explains.
Common Ground is an interactive sculpture created by NYC-based artist and Aldrich alumna Risa Puno that celebrates harmony and inclusion. Puno’s work is a grid of connected tables and benches that are each tiled with a different mosaic design inspired by the neighborhoods in Queens. The work is currently at Rufus King Park in Jamaica, Queens.
Due to the cost of the project, and lack of funds budgeted by the Museum for the initiative, The Aldrich has launched a Kickstarter Campaign. This Kickstarter campaign is the catalyst to rally the additional support needed to once again activate the Museum Sculpture Garden and create a space for community members to not only enjoy but also see as their own.
As a backer to this campaign, you’re funding the transportation of the sculpture to Ridgefield from Queens and providing honoraria for project collaborators. Visit Kickstarter HERE to learn more and to make a donation.
Why is this project so vital? The Museum explains, "The Aldrich’s mission is to connect and engage our community in creative and thought-provoking ways. By activating our Sculpture Garden with Common Ground, the community can gather and interact with a contemporary public art installation closer than ever before. It also facilitates new ways for museum visitors and Ridgefield residents to sit together, meet, chat, and learn, whether it’s taking a break outside or through our summer and fall programming."
