Three questions with Kate Fitzpatrick, owner of Kate Fitzpatrick Consulting.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business in 2007 because, after a career in international magazine publishing and nonprofit communications in New York City, I wanted a more flexible schedule so I could spend more time with my baby daughter. I'd learned social media from the ground up and met so many entrepreneurs through networking in Ridgefield, my hometown, who needed support in this area that I decided to focus on coaching them and/or inviting them to delegate to me, whichever was a better fit for their business. Especially in the health and wellness industry, which I'm really passionate about, a lot of entrepreneurs are completely overwhelmed by social media and I love making this easier for them so they can focus on the areas of their business that they truly enjoy.

What is your best selling product/service?

My social media audit is really popular with business owners who have been managing their own accounts in-house but need professional feedback. A lot of people get into a rut on social media or get distracted by trying to follow the latest trends and it can be helpful to get an objective third party's opinion on what's working and what isn't. The audit is a detailed analysis of a company's Facebook, Twitter or Instagram profile, complete with insights and suggestions on what hashtags to leverage, when to post, types of content, advertising options and much more.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

So many - I love shopping local and support Ridgefield businesses whenever possible! Squash's does a fantastic job printing my business cards and handouts for all my speaking engagements; I also buy all of my office supplies and my kids' school supplies there. Cucumber & Chamomile is my favorite place for business meetings and coaching sessions. I'm working with Joy Restored Studios (a talented Ridgefield resident with a beautiful Etsy store) to create some pieces for my office. I teach workshops at the Ridgefield Library a few times a month.
