Three questions with Christine Joy Meche, owner of Joy Restored Studios.
Why did you start your business?
I love hunting for treasures at estate sales, flea markets and garage sales. It always amazes me some of the unlocked potential that people are giving away in the form of furniture. I am forever on the lookout for pieces of furniture with character and vintage charm. I love finding those special pieces that others have overlooked and bring new life to them with a little bit of love and some fresh paint. Customers who support my shop can feel good knowing that each piece of real wood furniture has been upcycled into something newly beautiful and sustainably functional. I find joy in the creative process for each of my one-of-a-kind pieces and my hope is that buyer’s too will find joy in that special addition from my shop to their home. ...buy a truck so that I could feature larger pieces of furniture in my shop. You’d be surprised at what I’ve been able to fit into my little sedan, but I’ve also had to pass on many beautiful dressers and armoires that were too big to bring back to my workshop.
What is your best selling product/service?
Custom paint jobs! Many of us are trying to purge out the things we don’t use anymore, rather than acquire more home goods. Not everyone is in the market for a new end table or bookcase, but most of us probably have at least one piece of furniture at home that is functional while less than complimentary to our space. Furniture owners can contract me to update the pieces they already have and match their dream interior style.
