Three questions with Cathleen Bearse, owner of Self Care Bestie.
Why did you start your business?
I have been a psychotherapist in private practice for 6 years, but I started blogging and creating mental health and wellness products as a way to reach more people with the important message that self-care matters. I have experienced the importance of making self-care a regular practice from both a personal and professional standpoint, and I want to encourage as many people as possible to prioritize rest and peace.
Finish this sentence: I wish I could...
I wish I could... get more people to think of self-care as a non-negotiable in their lives. Oftentimes, clients will come to me exhausted and overwhelmed, with no plan for taking care of themselves or prioritizing their mental health. Life is fast-paced, and women especially have the tendency to put others’ needs before their own. Sometimes people just need permission to slow down and say “no,” and I would love to spread that message as far and wide as possible!
Aside from counseling sessions in my office, I have a monthly subscription self-care workbook and private Facebook community that is growing every day. Women from all over the world receive each month’s issue, focused on a self-care or mental health topic, then discuss in our Facebook group, where I also lead live Q & A and coaching sessions several times per month. Engaging with so many amazing women who are striving for the same gains has been such a joy for me.
