Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT Ridgefield Kempo!

Three questions with Sensei George Wolff, owner of Ridgefield Kempo.

Why did you start your business?

I've been a martial arts student for close to 20 years, joining my first martial arts academy when I was eight. Initially, I joined the academy to focus on improving my memory but found it increased my confidence and the ability to perform physically. Over the years, I discovered martial arts was my true passion and not only did I want to pursue his passion, but I also wanted to use it to help others the way it helped me.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish I could use martial arts to help everyone in need and be a great part in helping the world be a better place. People often perceive martial arts as just self-defense, physical performance and to conquer discipline. This industry is so much more than that! Part of the reason for opening our school was to demonstrate that to the community.

What is your best selling product/service?

Our best selling service is our family classes. Our family classes are designed to engage families of different ages with physical challenges, team building exercises, motivating each other and open communication. It is well encouraged in our facility for families to do activities together to create healthy bonds and shape a better family dynamic.
