Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Bailey's Backyard!

Three questions with Salvatore Bagliavio, owner of Bailey's Backyard.

Why did you start your business?

In 1999, I took my first drive through Ridgefield, Connecticut. As I drove down a quaint, little block called Bailey Avenue, I could not help but notice the former Ridgefield Coffee Shop. I immediately knew that this was the space and town for me. After being bitten by the hospitality bug in college and coming from a large Italian family centered around gatherings and food, it was always a dream of mine to open a restaurant.

Best Selling Product or Service?

I’d have to say it would be our Tasting Menus and Wine Dinners. We offer a Chef’s 7-course tasting available every day. The tastings allow our chefs to showcase local ingredients and offers our guests an opportunity to sample new creations every week. Our Seasonal Wine Dinners have grown very popular as well.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Local is what we are all about. We source our food from the following Connecticut farms: Arethusa, Horseshoe, the Hickories, Ox Hollow and Holbrook. Squash’s prints our menus, Elizabella’s for our kitchen small wares, The Cake Box for special occasion cakes and cupcakes. In addition, we partner with Cellar XV for our Wine Dinners and Ridgefield Hardware for just about anything you can think of.

Bailey's Backyard is located at 23 Bailey Avenue, Ridgefield. Call 203.431.0796 or visit them online here.
