Have you met Ridgefield’s new(ish) shoe cobbler? George Togridis owns the Shoe Repair Shop located at 15 Danbury Road, in Girolametti Court. It was August of 2018 that Daniel Abruzzese closed The Village Cobbler after forty years and moved to Florida.
Togridis, who owns a shoe repair shop in Greenwich, didn’t skip a beat. He fell in love with the space and by the end of August, it was his. After some renovations, he was open for business and has been busy ever since. Upon walking into the store today, the smell of fresh leather wafted from behind the beautiful wooden counter which Togridis told me he built for the new shop. A large sophisticated shoe shining machine in the shop has been refurbished and is the real deal! (It was fun watching Togridis shine shoes!)
A brand new floor, fresh paint, and a sitting area make Ridgefield Shoe Repair an inviting place.
Repairing shoes, belts, bags, and the like, is In Togridis’ blood. He told me he first fell in love with the craft at the tender age of eleven and began shining shoes at his dad’s shoe shop in New Canaan, a popular local business currently owned by his brother.
It was thirty years ago that the Togridis family purchased a second shoe repair shop in Greenwich. Today, Togridis splits his time and his talent between his two shoe shops.
George Togridis truly loves his craft and, by the look at the vast amount of shoes, boots, and bags inside the shop, his customers love him too.
It's so great that Ridgefield is still home to a shoe cobbler! Shop LOCAL.
