Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Clark Construction!

Three questions with Ross Clark, co-owner of Clark Construction.

Why did you start your business?

When my parents started Clark Construction more than thirty years ago, they had a vision for a different type of remodeling company - one where projects ran smoothly and clients didn't pull their hair out along the way.  With backgrounds as engineers and corporate execs, they had strong project management and problem-solving skills. This enabled my parents to bring structure to a field from which it was sorely missing.  Meticulous planning and schedule optimization allowed them to complete complicated projects quickly, and they focused on providing an A+ experience for their clients.  Clark Construction became known around town for doing beautiful projects, doing them well, and standing behind their work, and the same values still hold true 1000s of projects later, as the second generation leads the team.

Best selling product or service?

Most people come to us because their neighbor or friend had a good easy going remodeling experience with a wonderful new space at the end of the journey.  Our best selling service is how we care for our clients and their homes, but in terms of projects, our sweet spot is for good-sized projects, $100-$500K  like a kitchen addition or whole house remodel, where there is a design challenge or a complicated problem to solve.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We wouldn't be able to survive without Tusk & Cup, our downstairs neighbors who keep us going with coffee and the best soups ever.  Drs. Ahern and Galban have kept us healthy for over 30 years.  We love Deborah Ann's for chocolates and ice cream,  and Ally Bally Bee for handmade treasures.  We love cooking, so treasure Ridgefield Organics and Nature's Temptations, and have a passion for wonderful restaurants like Bernard's and Terra Sole. We value being able to work with local trades like Ridgefield Overhead Doors, La Pietra and Liberty Closets, and buying locally from Ridgefield Hardware, Rings End and Keough's.
