Super Third Saturdays at The Aldrich on March 21 Features Tree Spa and More

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum will be hosting a Super Third Saturdays on Saturday, March 21. The Museum will be open from 10 am to 7 pm and admission will be free all day. A full day of food, activities in nature, relaxation and special performances have been planned, including two by artists currently exhibiting in Weather Report.

From 11 am to 1 pm a family-friendly art-making workshop will take place in The Studio where visitors are invited to create winter sun cyanotypes using natural materials.

Artist Colin McMullan will be demonstrating how to tap a maple tree to collect sap to use for maple sugaring that visitors will be able to taste. McMullan will be activating his social project Tree Spa for Urban Forest Healing from 2 to 6 pm, containing a wood-fired maple syrup evaporator funneling maple-scented steam into a sauna that visitors are invited to sit and relax in. The Museum suggests visitors bring a swimsuit, towel, and sandals to enjoy sitting in the spa experience. Maple syrup will be made from sap collected from the maple trees lining Ridgefield’s Main Street and other local spots during this time.

- Throughout the day, Veracious Brewing Company (Monroe, CT) will host a tasting of maple-infused beer and other selections.

- Artist Sean Salstrom will perform Indefinity Box, a performative sculptural that reflects on the atomic bombing at Hiroshima in 1945 in the Museum’s atrium at 3 pm.

- At 4 pm in the Weather Report galleries, violists, ethnomusicologists, and author Tanya Kalmanovitch will conduct a participatory performance.

- To close the day, visitors are invited to listen and dance to musicians Ravish Momin and Val Jeanty perform as Turning Jewels into Water. The duo transforms ancient rhythms into digital realms, morphing dance into ritual while absorbing and adapting diverse folkloric traditions into their musical visions.

Admission to the Museum is always free the third Saturday of each month as part of the Third Saturdays program generously sponsored by Fairfield County Bank. On Third Saturdays there are always family-friendly art-making workshops in The Studio and a guided gallery tour at 3 pm.
