Why Small Businesses Matter Reimagined

Small businesses matter - now more than ever. They are answering the call with innovation and determination like never before.

We hope you join us in supporting them by sharing their story far and wide and shopping local! We are thankful to Fairfield County Bank for their continued support and making this series possible.

Three questions with Southwest Cafe owner, Barbara Nevins.

Are you offering any new products or ways for customers to purchase your products or services that are popular during this crisis?

We've had to re-invent ourselves on the fly since March 15. Takeout has been very popular. We've put in an extra phone line as well as online ordering through "toast takeout". We now have touchless menus and touchless payments available.  We've also created "family dinners"  and "date night dinners for 2" to go   And, most importantly, "margs to go" have been super popular!!

Are there certain individuals or organizations that supported you and your business through this trying time?

I can't say enough about the outpouring of love the town has shown Southwest Cafe.  Many people have continuously ordered once a week since the shutdown began. Also, customers have been buying multiple gift certificates and , supporting my staff with very generous gratuities.  Much appreciated! Thank you, Ridgefield!

Southwest Cafe has always been aware of sanitizing procedures and we take pride in keeping both our customers and our staff safe and healthy.  We have followed the industry standards with table spacing.. adding a few more tables along the sidewalk.

Please share the ways your business is adapting to keep your customers and employees safe in addition to the standard guidelines.

As the cold weather approaches, we now have draped side curtains. (and hopefully heaters soon!).  We are installing plexiglass between tables to ensure a safe indoor dining space.  My staff is constantly sanitizing and is always masked.  We ask customers to please keep us safe as well by wearing their masks when not eating or drinking at there table.  We are all in this together!
