Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT RPAC Gallery!

Four questions with Dee Dee Colabella from the RPAC Gallery.

Why did you start your business?

As a business owner and artist, my goal was to provide a beautiful space on Main Street with high visibility and foot traffic, in the middle of downtown Ridgefield, CT for artists to showcase their work. We strive to help our resident artists with anything they may need to reach as many people as possible. We pride ourselves on the many different styles and media our artists work in, as we believe in maintaining a rich and diverse collection of works for the community to enjoy.  If you see a work of art that you would like to view in person, our storefront gallery will set up a private showing of any exhibiting artist’s work.

What is your best selling product/service?

We are shopped by collectors and designers along with the casual shopper.  Since we offer one kind of Original Art along with Art Prints, we have a price point that accommodates every person who is interested in finding the right piece of art for their space.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

For our Exhibit opening events, we use local restaurants to have food at the openings and Ridgefield Wine and Spirits for wine and ice.  We often need supplies and Squash's is a go-to.  For our artists, we could not do without The Frame Shop who helps frames and helps us fix last-minute issues with the artwork. To get us going in the morning, we always go to Tazza.  We have also partnered with non-profits such as the Ridgefield Playhouse for fundraising events.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

During COVID, we have re-imagined our business. This Holiday Season, we opened a small Holiday Market featuring stocking stuffers and other unique gifts for shoppers. Also, our virtual gallery can let Art Lovers view amazing art in each show while still staying safe in their home, they can even make a purchase online and have curbside pickup.
Our New Show opens on Dec. 3rd. Virtual Gallery will upload on Dec. 8.
