Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Silverback Partners!

Three questions with Michael Leckie, Founding Partner of Silverback Partners.

Why did you start your business?

My vision for my own life is to make the world a better place to work and live. After a successful career trying to do just that, I decided that the biggest impact I could have in helping organizations and leaders change was now as an external partner with them. Having my own business has allowed me to work with more organizations than the one employing me. It has also allowed me to write a book, The Heart of Transformation: Build the Human Capabilities That Change Organizations for Good, and to try to share something I think is worth sharing with as broad an audience as possible.

What is your best-selling product/service?

My approach to changing culture is predicated on the idea that behaviors change beliefs, not the other way around. With senior leaders, and across organizations, I help them ask the specific questions that cause them to begin to see the assumptions they hold that might no longer be as true or useful as they once were. This approach to human-centered, individual-driven change is often what my customers are most interested in. It takes the complexity of "change" and simplifies it into building the capability to change; person by person.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

The business is new, but I have reimagined how to interact with depth, humanity, and true curiosity while still remaining on the cutting edge of technology. I partner with two firms that help me do this. LiiRN is the platform for change-acceleration that I use for enterprise-wide change. I am on the advisory board of LiiRN and am constantly working with them to build awareness of the power of this platform. I am also a partner with Howspace, the AI-powered digital collaboration tool. I have been a pioneer of the use of Howspace in North America and use this amazing platform constantly to deeply engage people both synchronously and asynchronously across the globe. The ability to collapse distances and time of collaboration that Howspace provides is amazing.
