Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Affinity Studio!

Three questions with Samantha Canale, the owner of Affinity Studio.

Why did you start your business?

I started this business because I truly believe that our health and wellbeing are so important, but are usually the first things we put on the back burner when life gets in the way. I want to remind people that you can get in shape and get strong, but it doesn’t have to be a chore. It’s about taking some time for “you,” because at the end of the day if you don’t feel good, you can’t care for the people around you. More than anything else, we value community. I want people to have a place they are excited to go to. I truly feel my instructors and I do so much more than just teach others how to take care of their bodies; we are listeners, we are teachers, and we want to be a friend to anyone who crosses our path!

What is your best-selling product/service?

We officially open May 3rd, but I can tell you the best-selling service will be our Beginner Pole Fitness Series. We already have one class maxed out. Pole fitness may seem intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. People often have this revelation after just one class. We teach you everything from the ground up to be able to feel sexy, get in shape and own that insecurity!! The most common question we get is, "Can I even attempt this class? I don’t have any upper body strength.” The short answer: HELL YES! Class participants all start as beginners and advance at the same rate in these 6-week workshops. You will continue with your group right up until the last class. You will walk out wanting to sign up for our next series and knowing you’re on your way to having killer upper body strength.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I think we’ve done a good job of incorporating classes that really embrace self-empowerment and put a fun spin on exercise, so we offer the classics like Zumba and HIIT, but also classes like Pole Fitness and Ballet Bootcamp. Listen, we can’t reinvent the wheel with fitness, right? Exercise is exercise, period. BUT - we can try to make it as fun as possible for participants! The goal is to make you leave class wanting to come back and wondering where the hell did that hour go…. I want to do more!" We welcome everyone to come and try us out -- your first class is always free.
