Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Nutmeg & Apple Handmade!
Three questions with Christina McManus, founder of Nutmeg & Apple Handmade.
Why did you start your business?
I started my business because I was not happy with the ingredients I found in many of the “healthy” options of bath and body products found in the market. Everything seemed to contain artificial and poor-quality ingredients that I did not feel comfortable putting on my or my family’s bodies. I also wanted to know that what I read on the label was what was actually in the product- nothing is hidden, etc.
That is why we are completely transparent with our ingredient list & we only include completely all-natural and high-quality ingredients. You will not find anything artificial- no dyes or fragrance oils. We only color our products with plants/nature and scent with essential oils.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Our best selling products are our soap and embroidered hand towels.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Nutmeg & Apple Handmade can be found in Audrey Road in downtown Ridgefield - having our products found in a local business helps our company to be found by local shoppers- not just an online market.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
We have been working on our online presence- more specifically Instagram. We want to show our customers not only our products/business but also the people behind the business. Our “reimagining” of our business is to make our customers feel like they know us, and are part of our extended family.
Christina would like to nominate Liz Raymond of Rags to Rainbows in Ridgefield to be featured next!
