Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Ridgefield Gardening Services!
Three questions with Ben and Henry, founders of Ridgefield Gardening Services.
Why did you start your business?
We started our business last summer during the pandemic as rising juniors in Ridgefield High School to make money in a safe and independent manner. We both have a passion for gardening, so we decided to turn it into our own business. As people who want to be entrepreneurs in the future, it’s been great to start early and learn the trials and tribulations of being a small business owner.
Since then, we have evolved and grown to offer more services than ever and even hiring other high school students to help us with projects.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Due to the nature of our work, we use Ridgefield Hardware to stock up on gardening supplies such as rakes, shovels, and pitchforks. Although that’s the business we use primarily, we always refuel after a long day’s work at local restaurants. Our favorites are Baja Cocina and Planet Pizza.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
We’re always adapting to keep up with the needs of our clients. Last year we focused mainly on maintaining and weeding gardens, however, this season we have added services such as mulching, transplanting, and hedge trimming. We have also grown the RGS team and we are always looking for better ways to serve the Ridgefield community.
Ben and Henry would like to nominate Baja Cocina in Ridgefield to be featured next!
